As much as I like their whites I struggle with the reds as I I find them hard and full of tannins. The 2011 Abadía de Gomariz is a blend of Sousón, Brancellao, Ferrol and Mencía which aged for one year in 300-liter used oak barrels. These ripe, south-facing vineyards in the Avia valley can produce very powerful, ripe wines and this is an example. Ripe blackberry aromas and flavors are structured by plenty of grainy, slightly dusty tannins that make for a harsh palate. These reds need time and/or powerful food. 20,000 bottles produced.
