Foreau's name is synonymous with high quality Vouvray. Vouvray Sec (bone dry Vouvray) remains an under-appreciated wine in America. These dry, slightly austere, but remarkably refreshing, crisp Chenin Blancs are never aged in oak. They are kept in stainless steel and bottled early to preserve their spring flower garden-like aromatics and flavors. These light-bodied wines tend to be remarkably flexible with an assortment of cuisines. Tasting the 1993 and 1994 side by side, one can see that 1993 possesses a spartan-like austerity when compared to the deeper gold-colored, dry 1994. The latter wine offers plenty of rich, flowery scents. Drinking these wines is like drinking a liquefied dried fruit cocktail with an underlying minerality. Both of these wines are best drunk over the next 2-3 years. There is unanimous agreement that Foreau is one of the superstars of the Loire Valley.Importer: Neal Rosenthal.
