The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape has a dark ruby/plum color and a sweet black cherry and currant nose with notes of loamy soil intermixed with a hint of nori (the seaweed wrapper used in sushi restaurants), as well as pepper and lavender. It is very spicy, and that, of course, is a signature of the 2006s. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.Chante Cigale deserves slightly more attention than I suspect it gets, but I am not sure it has been as effectively represented in the United States as it could have been.Importer: Elite Estates, Braintree, MA; tel.
