The 2013 Ischia Biancolella is 85% Biancolella (an indigenous grape found on the island of Ischia) with smaller parts Forester and other indigenous varieties. This is a gorgeous white wine (at an unbelievable low price) that excels in terms of intensity and purity. The nose is redolent of white flower, jasmine, honey, peach, pear, Golden Delicious apple and a playful touch of green olive or caper. Grapes are harvested on the western and eastern cliffs of the volcanic island off the coast of Naples. The wine imparts an impossibly long finish that is driven by acidity and an amazing clarity of flavors. This is a delicious effort that I highly recommend. The wine is brimming with personality and energy.
