The top of the line 2005 Ceuso is a blend of 50% Nero d’Avola, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Merlot that spent 12 months in French oak. This big, vibrant red flows from the glass with layers of violets, dark cherries, smoke, leather, sweet spices, earthiness and minerals. The wine reveals tons of depth, culminating in a powerful yet refined finish. A few years of bottle age should help the wine come into greater focus, but it is absolutely delicious today. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2017.
This small estate in Sicily is a great source for delicious wines. The Scurati Rosso is often one of Italy’s finest values, while the Ceuso explores the heights Nero d’Avola can reach when married with international varieties.
