A wine conceived because of Upchurch’s love of the wines from Provence (he’s a huge fan of Domaine Richeaume and older bottlings from Domaine Trevallon), the 2003 Doyenne Aix is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Syrah. Its ceiling wax and black fruit aromas lead to a medium-bodied core of blackberries, cassis, and juicy black raspberries. Well-concentrated and fresh, it is a wine that should be drunk over the next 4-5 years.
