This impressive offering, the first I have tasted from this high-altitude vineyard, performed exceptionally well. The 1998 Chianti Classico is a fine example. It exhibits a dark ruby/purple color as well as beautifully pure, nicely textured, ripe, smoky, black cherry and currant aromas and flavors intermixed with high class new leather and Provencal herbs. It is medium to full-bodied, with excellent depth in addition to impressive balance and length. Like all of the wines from proprietor Tonino Livon, it was bottled without filtration.
