A medium ruby color, with moderate amounts of orange/brown at the rim gives the impression of a fully mature, older wine. The nose offers light intensity aromas of coffee, spice, cedar, and faded red fruits. Sweet, gingery flavors, which suggest a 30-year old, over-ripe Bordeaux, quickly dissipate with no follow-through. Although the wine has some appeal, it is drying out, and appears well past its optimum drinking days. The tasting notes for this section are from two single blind tastings, one conducted in May, 1996, in California, and the other in June, 1996, in Baltimore.
