The modestly priced 2007 Esperance, a blend of 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and the rest Mourvedre, displays seductive berry fruit intermixed with tobacco leaf, herbs, and dusty, loamy notes. Dark ruby/purple-tinged, medium-bodied, with loads of fruit, excellent purity, and a nice, layered, plump mouthfeel, this wine should drink nicely for another 3-5 years. It is an excellent California Cotes du Rhone look-alike. Tel. (805) 686-9604; Fax (805) 686-9704
