The commendable 2009 Mas d’En Compte Tinto is a blend of 50% Garnacha, 45% Carinena and 5% Cabernet that is aged for 14 months in 30% new French oak and the remainder in large foudres. It has a well-defined, almost Burgundy-like bouquet with fine definition: fresh red berry fruit laced with liquorice. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded, slightly powdery tannins. There is certainly great fruit intensity, but there is also a fine sense of minerality towards the finish. Drink 2014-2025.
The Sangenis family is one of the oldest grape-growing families in Priorat, although until 1995 they sold their entire production to the local co-op.
