Domaine des Espiers' 1998 (a blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Syrah, from vines averaging 40 years in age) appears to be a strong efforts. This small estate of just under 23 acres has produced a full-bodied, blockbuster, opaque saturated purple-colored Gigondas with sumptuous aromas of jammy cassis, blackberries, and spice. A giant wine, with full body, huge extract, and multiple flavor dimensions, it requires 2-3 years of bottle age and should last for 10-15 years. Bravo!
