The profound 2000 Montenero (50% Nero d'Avola, 40% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in new French oak) boasts an inky/purple color as well as a dazzling perfume of espresso, toast, vanilla, new saddle leather, scorched earth, and creme de cassis. As the wine sits in the glass, notions of licorice and camphor also emerge. There is great richness, fabulous palate penetration, full body, an unctuous texture, and a 40+ second finish.
