The 2009 Coraje (which translates as “courage”) is a blend of 52% Garnacha, 38% Carinena and 10% Merlot, the first two from 84-year-old vines. It is aged for 12 months in new French oak, mostly Allier. Like other 2009s, there is touch of raisin on the nose from some over-ripe berries entering the vat, although the sumptuous palate is clean and ripe, soft in texture, with a plump, mocha and dark coffee-tinged finish. It is not a long-term wine but offers short to mid-term appeal. Drink now-2020.
