Production of the 2008 Syrah Turner Vineyard is tiny, but the price is a steal. Lots of bacon fat and meat juice notes intermixed with floral, blackberry, and cassis aromas jump from the glass of this inky/purple-colored, full-bodied 2008. Displaying good acidity as well as noticeable minerality, it is still backward and tight, but this wine should evolve nicely for a decade.
Joey Tensley, one of Santa Barbara’s budding superstars, produces a sensational portfolio of wines, save for his only weak spot – Grenache. The Syrahs continue to go from strength to strength, and some are realistically priced for the high quality.
