The 2005 RESERVA BAIRRADA is all Baga—a difficult grape that can produce rather rustic, ageworthy and tart wines. You have to like the style—or you won’t like the wine. Its acidity level is rather high and there is astringency on the finish. It is a little gamey to boot. Many will deem this to be a bit rustic. Yet, that said, this has something nice to offer and shows well, particularly considering the remarkably low price point. It is lively, elegant in the mid-palate and capable of aging for several years. For the exceptionally modest price point of $7 (as a suggested retail price, meaning it may well be available for less), it is well worth a try if the style is to your liking. Piemonte fans will likely be happier than Barossa fans. Drink now-2012. Importer: Tri-Vin Imports, Mt. Vernon, NY; tel.
