Morot’s 2008 Beaune Aigrots offers piquantly herbal, peat-like smoky scents, along with relatively ripe blackberry. This displays finer, mouth-coating tannins than characterized its counterpart from the Toussaints, finishing with an amalgam of dark fruits, woodsy notes, and bitter herbs. It’s one of those 2008s I would be tempted to hold for 8-10 years but would monitor carefully along the way. Geoffrey Choppin de Janvry was among those growers to report that more rigorous sorting was required for his 2008 fruit than had been needed the previous vintage.
