Charlopin continues to practice a whoppingly long 10-day cold maceration. This has resulted in deeply colored 1991s which are solid, concentrated, well-made wines, but lack the complexity and intensity to warrant outstanding ratings. The 1991 Gevrey-Chambertin-Vieilles Vignes offers up a sweet, chocolatey, curranty nose, ripe, rich, chunky flavors, low acid, and moderate tannins in the finish. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. A Peter Vezan selection, various importers, including Ideal Wines & Spirits, Medford, MA and Barrique Wine Co., Chicago, IL.
