The 2008 Peter Max Pinot Noir is a blend of 50% Elgin and 50% Walker Bay fruit with 15% whole bunch. It has a light red cherry and red currant scented, Burgundian nose. The palate has a soft entry with soft red-berries, citrus peel and a touch of wild strawberry on the soft, elegant finish. Peter-Allan Finlayson is a young winemaker-cum-surfer dude who is fashioning a few barrels of delectable Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Hemel-en-Aarde. The wines showed dramatic improvement in quality between debut and sophomore vintages, an upward trajectory that should continue as Peter hones his craft. There is a lot of talk about this boutique producer and I suspect it is only a matter of time before someone has the idea to bring them into the US.No US importer.
