The 2007 Rive Vineyard Pinot Noir is matured in 20% new oak, 16 months in French oak, cropped at 32hl/ha with 24 Brix and was notable for its small size of berries. This has a very lifted nose, quite plumy, mulberry and a very faint hint of menthol. Good definition. The palate is medium-bodied, very smooth texture, nice acidity, lots of personality here – dark fruits, almost broody on the finish. Elegant, sedate, dark plumy finish. It could do with more structure, but that might come with further vine age.Brian Bicknell is continuing to invest in Mahi since ceasing his consultancy work in 2006. The winery was still being constructed in January but thanks to the late harvest it was completed a week before the grapes were picked. He feels that the work they have put into their contracted vineyards that are certified organic, are beginning to pay dividends.Importer: Vine Street Imports, Philadelphia, PA; tel. (215) 533-9463
