The 2007 Barolo Case Nere could easily be mistaken for a Barolo from Serralunga. It is a huge, hulking wine packed with dark plums, wild cherries, smoke, underbrush, spices and French oak. The Case Nere turns a bit more elegant on the mid-palate yet remains a fairly large-scaled, extroverted wine best suited to rich, hearty foods. The tannins are surprisingly soft for such a big, young Barolo, and the Case Nere can be enjoyed upon release, especially with some air. A streak of graphite and minerals adds freshness on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.
