There are 1,500 cases of the 1998 Chardonnay Woolsey Road, which emerges from the Martinelli family's vineyard off River Road in the Russian River. About 70% new French oak was utilized, and like all of Patz and Hall's efforts, it was put through full malolactic fermentation. A hefty (14.2% alcohol) Chardonnay, it exhibits abundant aromas and flavors of smoke, lemon grass, and custard. Rich, with tart acidity as well as a medium-bodied, pure finish, it will benefit from another 6 months of bottle age, and drink well for 4 years. Tel. (707) 963-4142; Fax (707) 963-9713
