Although the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa reveals high, astringent tannins, it may turn out to be better in 4-5 years. It possesses attractive dark fruit notes, a distinct earthiness and spicy oak, but the tannins are firm and brutally present in this wine – even at 10 years of age. Here’s a nice glass of Cab, rich and dry and ripe. It has forward flavors of jammy blackberries, black cherries and cassis, with very rich, thick, complex tannins, but it’s so sweet in fruit and so velvety, it’s instantly drinkable. ——S.H.(9/1/2006)—— 90
