The opaque purple-colored 1997 Zinfandel Cooke Vineyard (14.9% alcohol) displays tangy acidity, but the extra layers of concentrated fruit neutralize the acid. There is a gorgeous nose of roasted meats, new saddle leather, dried herbs, and black fruits. Ripe, deep, medium to full-bodied, and buttressed by the aforementioned acidity, the finish is slightly compressed, but impressive. It should drink well for 7-8 years.
