The 2011 Meruge is mostly Tinta Roriz, with the typical "20% others," i.e., a field blend, aged in a mixture of new and used French oak for 12 months. This is probably the best of the Meruge vertical this issue. Like many of the others, there is a bit of funk here, a touch of char, something that made me wonder if there is a little bit of reduction, but it is round, deep and concentrated. It is also sensual and caressing in texture, too. It fills the mouth and takes it over while never showing hard tannins. It has a certain old-school Burgundy feel to it, but it is more accessible. You can dive in right now. It may still improve, but this is a great time to drink it.
