Dubini began making red wines in the 1990’s, and his Bordeaux blend was excellent in 1997. The 2001 Armaleo is slightly less impressive, but still a highly pleasurable example of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Intense and with much vanilla on the nose, its forceful berry, cedar, and mineral flavors and its continuity of flow confirm this producer’s talents in the vineyard and in the cellar. Only a slight dryness on the close prevents the score from going higher. Drink: 2006-2015.Giovanni Dubini is incontestably the number one producer of Orvieto, to the point where even his consultant, Riccardo Cotarella, willingly admits that he has no idea of how he achieves, year after year, such high quality wines from grapes which other houses simply struggle with.A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel.
