The 2004 Barolo Cannubi reveals the telltale aromas of this site, Barolo’s most historic vineyard. The fruit is surprisingly dark for Cannubi and there are hints of slight over-ripeness, yet the finely-textured tannins convey an impression of graceful elegance that is the hallmark of this vintage. Already quite approachable, this fine Barolo should continue to drink well for another decade, and perhaps longer. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019.
This is a very strong set of Barolos from Brezza, a producer who has ratcheted up their quality significantly over the last few years. The wines are aged in cask, which results in a traditional expression of Nebbiolo aromas and flavors that requires at least a few years of bottle age to emerge. A recent bottle of the estate’s 1978 Barolo Riserva Speciale was indeed quite special.
