While the Chardonnay-based wines from Bedell strike me as too obviously and awkwardly marked by their malo-lactic transformation (and otherwise rather uninteresting) their 2007 Gewurztraminer bottled under Bedell’s Corey Creek label (with fruit from both the eponymous vineyards and the Bedell estate) is once again quite successful. A nose of passion fruit, musk, grapefruit, and litchi leads to a lush, faintly soapy-textured, but for this variety, refreshing palate, and the finish here is as intriguing as the nose, a bit bitter and warm, but revealing salt, celery seed, passion fruit, and even a hint of dark chocolate. I would plan on drinking this over the coming year.
