The 2008 Cyclo is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Albillo. In an interesting twist at this level, 80% of the wine was aged for 24 months in French oak while the remaining 20% spent the entire aging period in cement. The explanation is too lengthy to include here but for those interested, the importer or the Bodega can provide its rationale. Aromas of herbs, olives, truffles, minerals, incense, violets, and blackberry aromas inform the nose of an elegant, savory, ripe Tempranillo that will continue to blossom for another 2-3 years and offer a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2023.
Finca Torremilanos is the only estate in Ribera del Duero permitted to produce Cava which they have now been doing for 30 years. The climate is cooler than Penedes where 95% of Spain’s Cava is made. It is made from 90% Viura (vine age 60-180 years) and 10% Chardonnay with 25 months on the lees and zero dosage with residual sugar less than 1%. Finca Torremilanos is to be commended for its effort to expand the winemaking envelope.
