This wine displays a black/purple color and fresh and lively aromas of violets and blueberries. This classy, muscle-bound behemoth bursts forth on the palate with lavish quantities of blackberries, cassis, black raspberries, stones, spices, and earth-like flavors. This is not a wine for the weak of heart as its fruit and tannin are present in substantial portions. It should be at its best between 2003 and 2007+.Note: This wine is crafted exclusively for North Berkeley Imports and is bottled unfined and unfiltered. Only 25 cases (one barrel) of each of these special cuvees were produced.Michel Magnien, like his son Frederic, has produced a stunning line-up of 1996 red Burgundies. Certain of these offerings are among the more tannic 1996s I tasted, and will require more cellaring than most of this vintage's wines.Importer: "Reserve" wines are Vezan/Hinkle selections for North Berkeley Imports, Berkeley, CA; tel (510) 848-8910, importers include Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel.
