The finest of the trio of St.-Josephs is the deep ruby/purple-colored 2001 St.-Joseph Ste. Epine. Always the last to be harvested, it reveals some austerity as well as more volume, elegance, richness, and tannin than its siblings. As with many 2001 northern Rhones, its high acidity and cooler-climate, greener taste resembles 1996. The 2001 should hit its prime in 2-3 years, and last for 10-12.Importer: Maison Marques et Domaines, Oakland, CA; tel. (510) 587-2000
