The 2006 Coteaux du Languedoc Pic Saint-Loup Vieilles Vignes offers a shining example of what was possible in this tricky vintage, and with around a 6,000 case production, it should be quite accessible in the marketplace. A nose of concentrated black fruits tinged with smoke and marine air, leads to a concentrated, clean, bitter fruit skin-tinged and smoky Lapsang black tea-laced palate, and a long, black-fruited, smoky, saline finish. This formidably-concentrated, lean, tight, yet seamlessly ripe red should be worth following for 5-7 years. (The winery proudly promotes the age-worthiness of this cuvee by selling older vintages at the cellar door.)Lancyre hasn’t just turned in another white wine performance you would not expect in Pic Saint-Loup, they have really outdone themselves this year!Importer: Hand Picked Selections, Warrenton, VA; tel.
