Sourced from vines on granite soils, the 2008 Chardonnay has a well defined, taut, mineral-rich nose that is understated but gains intensity with aeration. The palate is oaky on the entry, but a touch of Viognier adds a little exoticism to the blend. My only quibble is that the finish it too sweet. Drink now. Vondeling is a Paarl-based production established in 2001, although the oldest vines are actually 27-years old. Their 45-hectares of vines hone in on classic French grape varieties, and these were augmented three years ago upon the acquisition of a neighbour’s plot that included Petit Verdot and Pinotage.No US importer.
