The Weins-Prum 2008 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett smells of lightly-baked apple, toasted almond, honeysuckle and vanilla; offers a bright, delicate palate with succulent fruit and wafting floral perfume; and finishes with a hint of stone – in short, a wine so predictable one risks overlooking that fact that nothing remotely like it grows anywhere outside the greater Mosel, and one behind whose prosaic description likes the potential for a dozen or more years of distinctively delicious refreshment. Bert Selbach is another of those Mosel traditionalists for whom the opportunities afforded by the 2008 vintage to achieve low-alcohol, delicate wines was welcome, and the results are classics of their types, at the highly-affordable prices that always characterize this frequently under-rated estate.Importer: Rudi Wiest, Cellars International, Carlsbad, CA; tel. 800 596 9463
