With many 1986s, the questions continue to be, When will the tannins be totally resolved? And is the fruit sufficient to balance them out? This deep ruby/purple wine is dense, huge, and backward on the palate, but also has very aggressive tannins, and appears a good decade away from maturity. This could turn out to be one of the sleepers of the vintage, but my reservations about the level of tannins in the wine give me some cause for concern. Anticipated maturity: Now-2005. Last tasted, 4/89.
