Novelty Hill's white wines begin with the 2008 Sauvignon Blanc Stillwater Creek Vineyard abbreviated SCV in the balance of the Novelty Hill reviews. It was barrel-fermented in French oak for 6 months. Medium straw-colored, it sports an enticing nose of citrus, melon, and fresh herbs leading to a smooth-textured, spicy Sauvignon with excellent depth and concentration. Drink it over the next 1-2 years. Novelty Hill and Stillwater Creek Vineyard are owned by Tom Alberg. The vineyard, located on the Royal Slope of the Frenchman Hills (way off the beaten path), was planted in 2000 and has acquired a reputation for the high quality of its fruit. A year ago the winery moved into its new quarters in Woodinville which it shares with Januik Winery. The Novelty Hills wines are made by the talented Mike Januik. Always one of the superstar Sauv Blancs from Washington, this is especially good in this vintage. Lots of toast, butter cookie and a streak of vanilla are wrapped into silky, seductive, ripe fruit flavors that mix citrus, orange, papaya and lemon hard candy.
