The 2007 Pinot Noir spent 18 months in 40% new French oak. Dark ruby-colored, it delivers an expressive bouquet of wood smoke, nutmeg, cinnamon, mineral, black raspberry, and black cherry. Elegant, concentrated, and impeccably balanced, it will continue to open for several more years and offer a drinking window extending from 2010 to 2019.
Yarra Yering, along with Mount Mary, is considered by Australian experts to be one of the two finest wineries in Yarra Valley. The only cautionary note is the death of Dr. Bailey Carrodus in September, 2008. He founded and nearly single-handedly ran the winery from 1973 until his death. One can only hope that this gem of a winery will continue on uninterrupted.
