Andrew Will is an up and coming Washington state star and these wines deserve to be discovered by all who appreciate complex, rich, exceptionally well-made wine. There is a bevy of top choices from this quality producer. The Merlots all exhibit deep colors, and concentrated, supple styles, with fine depth and richness. The 1989 Merlot-Ciel du Cheval is top notch. Big, rich, full-bodied, dense, and chewy, it is the most muscular and concentrated of these three Merlots. Although it still has some tannin to resolve, it is exhibiting a chocolatey, coffee, black fruit character. It should drink well for at least a decade.
