(13.5% alcohol): Bright, pale red. Distinctive perfume of red cherry, thyme, fynbos, spices and rose petal (I had just tasted Adi Badenhorst's Caperitif and this may be South Africa's closest table wine to it in terms of its aromatic perfume), with hints of leather and woodsmoke. Surprisingly supple and silky on the palate, but with firm-edged acidity giving the wine terrific definition and lift. Flavors of cherry and red berries show medium body and no rough edges. Finishes with a repeating floral perfume, a very fine dusting of tannins and lovely subtle length. Showcases floral, delicate side of Nebbiolo, and a compelling wine. I have no idea how this will age but I'd love to come back to it in five or six years. Utterly seductive wine--and just 9% new oak.
