Chapoutier purchases his Cornas from one of the better-known producers of that appellation. The 1998 Cornas, which was very good last year, seems more rustic and tannic, without as much depth and concentration as I discerned last year. A dark ruby color is accompanied by a peppery, blackberry, dusty bouquet, and moderately-endowed, tannic, compressed flavors. It may dry out, and I am also concerned about a higher acid profile than I remember from last year. Importer: Paterno Imports, Lake Bluff, IL; tel. (847) 604-89000
