There were back-to-back Zeltinger Sonnenuhr “gold capsule” Auslesen from Prüm in 2010 and 2011, but none since... until this beauty. Its nose is a concentrated essence of floral perfume – heliotrope, lily and gardenia – though also suggestive of quince preserves and marzipan, with a hint of white raisin. A glycerol-rich, creamy, delicate palate is saturated with liquid perfume, its confitured and confectionary aspects supported by appropriate but not at all excessive sweetness. And just when they’re most welcome, a luscious rush of juicy grapefruit and a mouthwatering influx of marine salinity allied to scallop-like savor complement the luscious fruit and liquid perfume on a sensationally sustained, tongue-quivering finish. This was indeed, as Katharina Prüm had intimated, an outstanding vintage for Zeltinger Sonnenuhr!
