The 1989 is a jammy, raspberry-and-blackberry-scented wine that is fat, lacks acidity, but has high alcohol, and a chunky, fleshy, mouth-filling feel. If drunk young, this wine will provide a great deal of pleasure over the first 7-9 years of life. Given the resemblance to the 1982--a wine that has continued to develop more grip and structure over the last decade--this wine may well have greater longevity than I am predicting. It typifies the ``house style'' of Balestard. Anticipated maturity: Now-2005. Last tasted, 4/91.
