My first exposure to these wines has resulted in enthusiastic tasting notes. The top of the line cuvees from Coriole are a proprietary red called Mary Kathleen and a blockbuster Shiraz called Lloyd. The 1994 Mary Kathleen, a blend of 46% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 14% Cabernet Franc, boasts an opaque purple color, as well as a tightly-knit, reticent nose of black cherry fruit, earth, pain grille, and spice. Full-bodied, dense, and huge, this pure, thick wine with a chocolatey richness is impressive, but it needs 2-3 years of cellaring. It is well-worth buying despite its lofty price tag.
