Slightly closed on the nose and hard to read when I tasted it, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape slowly gives up deep aromas of raspberry, red currants, leather and hints of spice. Medium to full-bodied, with a solid mid-palate, sweet tannin and impressive length, it should be a long-lived 2011. Give it another year and enjoy it through 2021. Drink 2015-2021.
Produced under the Jaboulet umbrella (this 27-acre estate lies in the eastern part of the appellation and was purchased in 2009), these are serious, age-worthy efforts worth checking out.
