Seemingly fully mature, this wine exhibits some amber at the edge to its dark garnet color. The nose exhibits dark fruit, earth, and underbrush, with hints of smoke, plum, cherry, and Provencal herbs. It is medium-bodied yet firmly tannic. It is certainly going to last for at least another 8-10 years, but I am not sure it has the relative charm or succulence of the top vintages. Anticipated maturity: Now-2017. Last tasted, 5/02.

Slightly austere but it shows a lovely allspice and fruit character that draws you back to the glass. Medium- to full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, racy finish.--L'Eglise Clinet vertical. Drink now through 2008.
