The seriously endowed 2003 Grenache (from 120-year-old vines off of the sandy soils of the Blewitt Springs Vineyard) offers an explosive perfume of kirsch liqueur, licorice, pepper, and spice box. This rich, full-bodied, voluptuous Grenache can be enjoyed over the next 3-4 years. A new winery (I believe these are the debut releases), winemaker/proprietor Justin McNamee (who looks like a young Bob Dylan) worked at Giscours and Du Tertre in Bordeaux, followed by an apprenticeship at Napa’s Chateau Montelena. His first efforts are impressive, although I do not understand why anyone would play with Tempranillo given how well that grape does in Spain, and for a lot less money.Importer: Dan Philips, The Grateful Palate, Oxnard, CA; tel.
