The 2011 Terre di Cosenza Pollino Magliocco Riserva Graneta offers a fascinating window onto this little-known red grape variety found only in Calabria, or the "toe of the boot of Italy." Riserva Graneta opens to dark concentration and a richly saturated appearance. On the nose, the wine offers integrated fruit tones and moderate aromas overall. There are distant shadings of oak spice and tobacco at the back, but the wood tones are more contained compared to the over-the-top Riserva Don Rosario. Riserva Graneta is aged six months in larger tonneaux vessels. The wine shows soft tannins with balsam herbs and dried oregano on the finish.
