The 2005 TRINCADEIRA & ALICANTE BOUSCHET is youthful, elegant and fruity. There are, however, also some heavy funky notes which rush up strongly that I attributed to reduction. It is bright, and laced with tasty cherry notes at the outset, with light tannins along the edges that provide some grip and support the fruit well. The Alicante Bouschet seems dominant at the outset, but the funky Trincadeira asserts itself as the wine airs out. It is, of course, hard to tell since the reductive aromas dominate the wine, and make it quite unpleasant. A second bottle was worse. It reeked the moment the cork was removed. Drink now-2011.
