The 2021 Verdelho is taut and tropical (a great combo when it comes to Verdelho). It is full of pineapple husk, green apples, brine, layers of lemon pith, grapefruit and gentle notions of cheesecloth. I like this variety, when it's made in this way; picked on the underside of fully ripe (perhaps), it retains that quenching line of pithy acidity, and the phenolics hold it in good stead in the cellar for up to a decade. As it ages, it moves into a toasty, spicy spectrum of flavor and makes for engaging drinking.
This was tasted blind as part of the "Value for Money" tasting in September 2023. RRP $27 AUD.
