The 2011 ROSE is a blend of 60% Castelao, 30% Aragonez and 10% Touriga Nacional. Fresh, ripe and with a slightly meaty overtone, this pink comes in at just 12.5% and has tons of flavor. In a fairly laid back style, this is easy to drink, without bracing acidity, but quite fresh. Note that this pink is made by Pegoes, the separately listed co-op in the region that is part of Azul Portugal’s stable. The 2010 Rose is 100% Castelao, a grape for which the Setubal region is known. Fruity and fresh, with an elegant mid-palate, this is a clean, aromatic wine with neither much pretension nor steely acidity. It should be great this summer and it provides some bang for the buck in its easygoing style. If you're looking for one of those pinks with lots of acidity or something that acts as a red wine substitute - this isn't it. It has its own charms in its own middle-of-the-road style, though.
