The wine sees 14 months in French barrique. The tannins are on the dry side, but the wine is amply concentrated and rich, thus hitting the palate with lots of soft intensity. This wine is beautifully ripened and soft, with plenty of cherry and dark berry fruit. After 14 months in barrique and 14 months in bottle, the tannins in this release of about 14,000 bottles are mild, and the wine avoids those sharp or thorny notes that you sometimes get with this proud Sicilian grape. The soft, almost Merlot-like approach offered here would pair with any number of pasta dishes or even a classic lasagna.

The 2015 Sicilia Nero d'Avola Lu Patri embraces every last sunbeam of this hot vintage. This is a dark and saturated expression of Sicily's Nero d'Avola grape that delivers ripe, almost sweet, tones of Morello cherry and cherry liqueur. You also get cinnamon, tilled earth and baking spice. The wine shows soft tannins and lots of rich fiber and dark padding. A good pairing would be beef bourguignon. Production is 15,220 bottles.

This is a nicely balanced but subdued (in a good way) expression of Sicily's mighty Nero d'Avola grape. The 2014 Sicilia Nero d'Avola Lu Patri exhibits uniform ripeness. This is a very important quality of this vintage. Because the fruit is not too ripe, you can make out the smaller aromatic details that might otherwise be lost. Those details include wild cherry, rose petal marmalade and sweet tobacco. This wine rests in French barrel for 14 months. Bottle production is 16,589 strong.
